Reiki

Reiki is a form on natural healing. The word is Japanese and means ‘Rei’ (universal wisdom) and ‘Ki’ (life energy). Translated simply it means universal or spiritually guided life force.

I practise the Usui Shiki Ryoho form of Reiki and was attuned by Padma O’ Gara in Llandudno Wales, where the sea and mountains made it a very spiritual experience for me. As a fairly busy person with a young family and hectic lifestyle, I had an open mind to the whole concept of spiritual healing, but the results Reiki has produced from both me offering treatments to clients and receiving them resulted in me becoming a Master at Level 2 so I am able to attune my clients to treat their families and friends.

A lot of information is available about Reiki and I recommend you research this therapy to find out all the benefits it can offer. The Reiki Association has a very informative website.

Reiki can be used to treat anyone and anything and is not connected to any religion or belief. All you need is to be open to receive it. There are occasions where it may not be suitable so please disclose any issues you have before commencing your treatment.

Reiki is a gentle non invasive hands-on treatment and has four aspects: healing, personal development, spiritual discipline and mystic order. It can also be offered mentally as distant healing for anyone away from you who you would like to help.

Reiki treatment is shared fully clothed (except shoes and outdoor clothes). It is ideal if you can lie on a treatment couch or settee, but if this is uncomfortable, you can sit upright.

I place my hands over your body gently in various positions, working over any specific areas of discomfort. Everyone experiences different sensations during a treatment; you may feel great heat or cold; see patterns or colours; experience tingling sensations - or you may not notice anything.

After your treatment you may feel energetic or feel like falling asleep. Thoughts about issues that happened a long time ago and were never resolved can flash through your mind. These thoughts and feelings are all part of the healing process. There is no right or wrong, and you may feel different after each treatment.

Reiki is similar to other therapies and you will find that you may need to have treatments with several practitioners before you find one you are comfortable with. Always ensure you are aware of what is involved before committing to a treatment.
